Brief 11: YCN Topdeck Travel - App Ideas

I want to design an app for this brief, as I think that is a relevant and appropriate medium to the audience and brand.

What did I want to achieve?
When doing my dissertation, I found that apps that are personalised to the user, have a card swiping interface and have swiping gestures make an effective app - as well as having a purpose for the user. I wanted to implement all of this into an app for Topdeck which would encourage people to consider using them on their travels as well as get information across from the brochure and live like a local campaign. What I didn't want to do, was just have a mobile version of a website - I don't feel like people would be as willing to book a huge holiday and part with that much money via a phone.

Concept
So, my idea was to have an app which encourages exploration of countries and the things you can do there to inspire people - and inspiring people is what would encourage them to travel with Topdeck.
Since people usually browse through their phones casually, it is something they can use to pass time, when they are on the move or with friends.

The concept would be that users can select places they want to go to, and things that they are interested in, and the app would generate experiences and activities based on this to show what they would be interested in. The user can then view these in a card based interface, add them to their bucket list, view trips they can do the experiences on and then view more details on trips they like the look of.

Sketches
I did a lot of sketches for this to figure out the navigation, contents and the general flow of the app.

After I had made a lot of notes and sketches, I went onto wireframing to see how it looked digitally.
