Here is my development of the logo.
I did some rough sketches of layouts and styles that I could do, and after this went to Illustrator to experiment.
I started by trying to create a symbol using a sun and moon.
Firstly I tried something really basic but felt it was really lacking
I then tried something with a bit more to it, but again wasn't feeling it
I looked at some fonts that I thought would work well - looking at type which have interesting ampersands.
I played around with layout (there would be a symbol where the circle is)
I then tried using a more scripted font with emphasis on the ampersand
I then tried something more clean, seeing how a less perfect symbol might work, but again I don't like it
I tried not having a symbol and played around with having the logo on two lines which I quite like - would make a good shape for stamp on the tag
I then tried a different shaped sun
And using just simple icons of each in the logo rather than combining the two
I tried hollowing the sun
I feel the vintage clothing looks better smaller with a larger kerning
I tried it side by side which could work
I then tried them at the side of vitnage clothing which I think could also work well but might be a bit small
I feel vintage clothing is quite long, so shortened it to vintage but that isn't very clear what it is then
So I went back to the full term
I then tried a different font and a more vertical logo variation
I tried them above and beneath the ampersand but felt it was too separated then
I prefer the icons either side of the ampersand
This is what I have so far in variations, and they're not great I must admit.. but I do want to keep it simple so that it contrasts with a hand rendered pattern that will be featured on the branding and it also needs to work on a stamp therefore has to be quite simple.
I tried a different direction for combining the symbol, incorporating an ampersand to create a literal visual representation of the name
I then added some stars instead, but felt this looks like a creepy smiley face inside
So I took it out which I think works better
I tried it with this layout which I think works well
I then inverted the moon area which I think looks better as well
I then tried adding an oval shape around the logo to make more of a stamp effect
I then tried warping the secondary tex around it which I think would work - if I could figure out how to make clothing the right way round!
I moved them closer to the text which I think looks better on the eyes
I then tried warping the main text which I also think works well, with the icon I made between the vintage and clothing. I think this would make a good stamp
Here are the 9 logo designs that I have created for the client, and laid out ready to present to them.
