Brief 4: Sun & Moon - Lasercutter

Following the client approval of the logo and tag design, I am going to lasercut lino today to try and create a stamp of them. I am then going to use my lino cutter tools to create a deepeer engraving.

If this does not work, we will order a stamp to be made from the English Stamp Company.

I prepped my files ready, expanding and reflecting them

I also created an extra tag with different size text on to see if it would be easier to cut

When I got into the lasercutter programme, I had to import the tags as jpegs with the areas I want to be burnt out coloured in black.

Here is the laser cutter printing

This is how they turned out - so I now have the outline, but I need to carve with my lino cutter to get a deeper incision otherwise the ink will still cover the entire area.

I cleaned the area with a brush to get off the excess dust

I carved the area I needed to with the lino cutter to get a deeper cut

I cut the area that I needed to make them easier to handle. I couldn't get right into the cracks of the type as it was too small

I decided to try it out with this press to see if that made a difference.

I think the press is too heavy and caused it to bleed a lot on the stock

So I tried it by hand which worked better but still wasn't great

I started to test it on newsprint instead to stop wasting tags, but I didn't see that much of an improvement

Now I am going to try matte vinyl to see how that turns out, but I think that ordering a stamp online would be the best option for the client right now
