Since we wanted to use different sized stock within the publication, I started looking at different ways it could be bound.
We also wanted to use different printing methods to make the most of the facilities and options available to us, so I looked at appropriate examples of that too.
I looked at stitching methods, as we could have an exposed spine for this and experiment with different options to use different sized stocks.
This shows a tab that opens on the front page which we have discussed is a good idea.
We love the idea of metal screws because it is cost effective, allows us to use different types and sizes of stock, and fits in with the industrial look and feel of the college.
We also think the tab again is a great idea for the cover. We was thinking having the title on the tab cover, and illustrations on the front page. It also fits in with the idea of having tabs inside the publication.
Here shows an example of what we want to do by including a shorter page within the publication. This will show the bio, experience, achievements, photo of each individual.
This is just an interesting example of using different sized stocks.
An example of a stitched spine.. I feel like we should stay away from this because it looks a bit too arty and not very professional. Combined with illustrations, it might look too vis com.
Here a metal clip is used for binding which we thought was an interesting idea, and thought about using them, as it allows for flexibility when using different stocks/sizes.
I thought this was cool to use elastic bands as it is unusual and very different from previous years.
Another example of a shortened page within a dps, showing clearly what our idea is.
The metal screws is something we think will work well as it will allow the page to be opened flatly with the crease as well. As Evolution Print have a drilling machine it is very doable.
We also thought about using die cutting methods on the front cover as it could be interesting to have a cut out title. Here is an example of how it could look.
I thought this was interesting with different page sizes within a publication.
