Concept
We decided that the concept behind our yearbook would represent personality and identity, since previous years seem to have overlooked this so it would be a new direction to go in and reflect our year well.
Although the previous yearbooks have been designed to a high standard, we think that adding this element will bring it to a new level and fill the missing space.
To incorporate this, we think everyone should have an individual picture on their page, a class photo should be featured and illustrations representing each individual should be created on their page.
Binding
As I had looked at binding options that would work for our idea of having different page sizes, we talked through them - metal clip, elastic bands, stitching and metal screws.
We thought that metal screws would be a really good option because:
- Practical - easy to do, means we can have different stocks and paper sizes with ease
- Drilling - we looked at the services evolution print provide, and they have a drilling machine so this can be achieved
- Cost - the cost of the screws would be minimal
- Industrial - the look and feel of the college is quite industrial with the exposed materials and so this reflects that. This modernist aspect also reflects part of the groups style.
- Different - previous years have been perfect bound so this will be a different approach to make it stand out
We looked at Evolution Print's website to see if this would be possible, which it is
Stock
We thought that a range of stocks would be appropriate for the book. This is because we want a stock that works well with photography, as this will be a big part of the book.
We also want the smaller tabs to be a different stock because:
- This will break up the content
- Not be as repetitive
- Make it stand out more
- Categorise the difference in content
- Make the most of print/options we have
We looked through the GF smith examples the college has, and started to select appropriate stocks.
- Photography - we have decided that we will email gf smith and ask what stock they have used to show the photography in their book, as that works really well with the imagery and has a nice feel to it. It is white which would make the
- Tabs - we decided to have a thicker grey/off white uncoated stock for the smaller tabs which will feature the individual's bio, photo, experience etc on
- Front/back pages - these should be a thicker stock, and different colour to be different from the inside. We was thinking possibly brown so that it would go well with the metal screws
- We also thought we could have a different colour stock for the divider pages
As GF smith use a lot of recycled papers which would be good to use as it reflects a lot of peoples ethos on the course.
We should email GF Smith about the stock the use in their sample book so we know what it is.
Finishes
We thought that we could have a die cut front cover to, to make the most of the printing finishes that we can do

We decided to have a key, and categorise projects by

We thought about what we should include in the presentation, and we decided we would put it together tomorrow
