Brief 1: Lowknight Album Artwork - Design Boards/Client Pitch

Now I have designed three concepts for the front cover, I am going to pitch them to the client. I am going to create design boards for them so I can mock them up to look professional and give an explanation to my design decisions.

I made sure to use words that the client had mentioned in the brief, such as 'catatonic state', 'curiosity' and 'relaxed'. This is so he knows the visuals relate to what he wanted.

Idea 1
The colours here are darker to reflect the difficult time of being in a catanoic state. The style is abstract to represent the unknown territory doctor’s experienced when using Levodopa. There is a trapped section of the design where a person can be seen. The face is hard to identify, and represents someone in a catonic state who isn’t the same person anymore. The Levodopa diagram is also in this section, to represent that the drug is used on these type of people.

Idea 2
The blue paired with the soft colours creates a relaxing tone for the nature of the music. The abstract format of the cloud creates a sense of curiousity to the viewer, as it can be interpreted as different shapes. Due to the layering, it also adds more depth to the design and therefore keeps the user’s attention. The Levodopa diagram is also included in the design in a subtle, soft way which is consistent with the rest of the theme.

Idea 3
The image of being above the earth represents the unknown, and being only partially able to see beneath the clouds creates curiosity. Here, the Levodopa diagram and the artist title have been concealed partly with clouds to create an abstract aesthetic, and represent the view that not all of the facts were known at the time of its use.

Outcome
The client happened to like all three of the covers which is great news. I think it was successful because before I started the project I was clear about what was needed in the brief, and that he had to be specific, so in turn he was clear about what he wanted. We asked questions during this stage so that we were clear about the project. It definitely made the process easier getting all of the ideas bought up at the beginning, and allowed me to complete the project in a day.

Now I am going to let the client pick his favourite, so that I can complete the brief and design the back of the cover, with track listing etc.
