Brief 7: Design Something More - Define

I started to plan what I was going to do, and why I am going to do it based on my initial thoughts.

1. Define

What should it stand for?

• Water made simple
• Providing accessible and plentiful information and data
• Give people more control and choice

Why should it exist?

• People pay for water - they have to - so service should be able to accessible
• Users should be in control of how they use their water as it's a necessity - should have all the info
• Users can make informed decisions about how to be responsible with water
• Water wastage is high - with data and information, people can control this and limit it

Why should people care?

• They pay for a service, so should know what it involves and how to interact with it
• If you have a problem you will be informed about how to solve it - or how to prevent it
• Helps to save people money, the planet and keep on track of it

What makes it different?

• There is no app for a water supplier
• Digital engagement + water isn't something that goes hand in hand usually
• Goes out of its way to provide information and data to people, previously hard to obtain
• It's personalised - shows by reducing water intake how it can change that individuals water bill

2. Create

What does it sound like?

• Informative, easy to digest, straightforward language
• Not too serious - doesn't make it sound like a chore/boring task
• Confident in what it is saying - trustworthy

What does it do?

• An app
• Tracks your usage throughout the year
• Can filter through day/month/year
• Says whether it's high/low usage compared with other days
• Shows average
• Can pay the bill through app
• Notification comes through when you can pay/when overdue
• Can disable notifications
• Shows balance owed
• Multiple people can pay same bill
• Suitable for bill splitting house sharers
• Divide amount between how many people need to pay
• Can see who has paid what and when
• Flexi payments
• Choice to pay yearly, monthly, quarterly
• Request a printed copy of bill through app once paid
• Water Meter
• Submit water reading to supplier
• Check how price is changing in correlation to usage
• Fixed rate
• Shows amount for a year
• Can see how changing to a water meter can save money
• Saving Water
• Tips to save water, i.e. shorter showers
• Personalise these to the user and make it interactive
• For example, have an illustration of a shower head with running water, user can drag to increase/decrease water usage and see how much money they would save/spend based on duration of shower
