OUGD603 - This Year's Briefs

I have written 11 briefs that I'm interested in doing this year, so I have a selection to choose from.

I also intend on doing competition briefs:

  • Secret 7
  • Penguin Book Cover
  • D&AD/YCn

Here are the written briefs, including 9 self initiated and 2 live briefs.

I was debating whether to do this brief in 2nd year, and eventually decided on something else. So I decided to do it this year as I did really want to do it. Designing apps is something that I want more practice with, so thought this would be a good brief to do that with.

I am really interested in nail art, so I thought it would be a fun project to do some branding for it. I thought it would be a fun to make my own designs and then be able to create a brand for them.

I love gin, and I like seeing food and drink packaging so I thought it would be a good opportunity to combine both. I always see unusual flavoured vodka and ciders, so I thought I would apply that to gin.

I really wanted to draw flowers, and create a website which was both informative and had great imagery on it, which is why I thought to create branding for a botanical garden would make a good brief. This is probably the one I am most looking forward to doing - I like designing for everyday things rather than things just designers will like.

For this project I just wanted to improve my skills with designing apps/widgets and use great photography. Weather apps are quite popular with sites like dribbble and I want to see what I can do differently.

I love Christmas, and I wanted a festive themed project to do over the Christmas period. As I want a lot of my projects to involve web design, I thought of created an advent calendar website. I also want to improve my illustration skills, so this will be a good opportunity to do that.

My best friend owns a vintage clothing company and has asked me to do the branding and identity for it, including a logo and packaging for the clothes.

I have a friend who makes and produces his own music and he has asked me to do some artwork for him.

Having lived in Leeds for two years, I have really enjyoed getting to know the city and doing lots of things here but I still feel like there is so much that I don't know about. Considering how many students move here from different places, and how many people live here but aren't originally from here, I thought an app detailing everything that is happening here would be useful. This also fits in with the fact that I want to do web/app design this year.

I love soul music, and thought it would be a fun idea to do some album artwork and screenprints. I haven't included anything heavily print based in these projects, so I thought I would include one as I do like printmaking.

This is the project that I want to do the most - an illustration a day. I really want to improve my illustration skills as I have always felt they are lacking, and I think it is an important part of being a designer. I learnt so much on my placement and began to try new styles, so I want to explore these more with this brief.

This is a fictional charity called The Primate Project. It is to create branding and identity as well as a heavy digital presence.

Here is my reading list for the projects.
